Where To Start When Dining Out

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

It’s pretty easy to go on a diet. It’s doesn’t have to be torture. There are plenty of good foods you can eat on a diet.  I myself tend to cook at home rather than go out. But if you are the type that love the restaurant experience or can’t cook, there are things out there you can enjoy:

Chili’s

  • ·         Get: Grilled Salmon w/ Garlic & Herbs = 520 calories. (with steamed broccoli and rice) (you can request that they cut down or out the butter)
  • ·         Stay away from: Quesadilla Explosion Salad = 1400 calories
  • ·         Whatever you do, stay away from the sweets:  Brownie Sundae As Served 1290

Logan's Roadhouse
  • ·         Get : Mesquite Wood-Grilled Chicken (Served With Steamed Broccoli and Health Nut Side Salad) = 550 calories
  • ·         Stay away from: the dinner rolls = 227 per roll
  • ·         Stay away from: 12oz steak = 974 calories without the sides

Apple bee’s

  • ·         Get: Weight Watchers® Garlic Herb Chicken (with sides) =  370 calories
  • ·         Get: Grilled Dijon Chicken & Portobellos (with sides) = 450 Calories
  • ·         Get: Grilled Shrimp & Island Rice = 380 Calories
  • ·          Stay away from: Any of the Fajitas they are well over 1,200 calories
  • ·         Stay away from: Apple bee’s riblet’s platter = 1570 to 1700 calories

Word of advice..
  • ·         Watch what you drink. The most common thing to over look, is the calories in drinks…. Don’t get any sodas. If you are getting a fruit juice, limit to one. There are no calories in unsweetened tea.
  • ·         If you are getting a side salad, keep in mind that the dressing is loaded with calories and so are the croutons. It’s best to just stay away from them all together.
  • ·         Stay away from the side bread. Calories range between 200 to 300 per roll/biscuit/cornbread.
  • ·         When it comes to picking your sides, skip the fried food and go for the steamed veggies.
  • ·         Skip the loaded potatoes. Nothing is healthy about a spud covered in butter, sour cream, bacon, and cheese. Same goes for the sweet potato, it’s tasty by itself.
  • ·         Practice portion control. These days’ restaurants serve waaaay to much food. Save some of your food for lunch tomorrow.
  • ·         If you have a sweet tooth, most places tend to have a fruit cup as a side. I know apple bee’s and IHOP have them.
  • ·         Almost all restaurants have healthy options on their menu.
  •
I will post more restaurant suggestions soon.
