Where to start when dining out.. partie deux

Let’s say you are a working lady and it’s time for lunch break. What are you going to eat for lunch? Chances are you’re going to the nearest fast food joint to grab a quick lunch…. The only problem is, you started a diet. What do you eat now?

Lucky for you, most restaurants have jumped on the healthy food band wagon!!!! Is it too good to be true? Yeah, it probably is considering that salads they have are loaded with SODIUM, FAT and CALORIES…  yowza!
But here are a few tips you can follow for your fast food salad:
  • ·         Stick to Low fat dressings… and use half the pack!
  • ·         Stay away from bacon, add grilled chicken or turkey instead
  • ·         Add nuts or seeds (example: walnuts, sunflower seeds or pecans)
  • ·         Skip the cheese!!!!!
  • ·         Stay away from the crotons or other crispy bread things

According to Fitness magazine these are the best FF salads:

At McDonald's: Premium Bacon Ranch Salad with Grilled Chicken
345 calories, 16.5g fat, 5.25g saturated
Bacon makes it seem naughty, but the portion keeps it nice -- if you use only half the dressing.

At Wendy's: Mandarin Chicken Salad with Grilled Chicken Fillet
385 calories, 18g fat, 2.25g saturated
Almonds supply lots of crunch, so nix the noodles and use half the Oriental dressing.

At Burger King: Tendergrill Chicken Garden Salad
390 calories, 20g fat, 4.5g saturated
Three cheeses and garlic croutons -- yum! Just opt for the light Italian dressing.

At Taco Bell: Chicken Fiesta Taco Salad
420 calories, 16g fat, 5g saturated
Say adios to the tortilla shell and this cheesy bowl becomes a safe bet.

At Quiznos: Black & Bleu Flatbread Salad
340 calories, 10g fat, 5g saturated
Skip the flatbread, and this stick-to-your-ribs salad (steak and blue cheese!) gets a thumbs-up.

Word of Advice….
  • ·         It’s easier to make food at home. This way you can control what you eat and you won’t be tempted to get a soda and French fries with it.  Click here for ideas (http://www.laptoplunches.com/)
  • ·         If you go to a place where you can make a salad… don’t drown your salad with cottage cheese or dressing because you don’t like the flavor. Try eating something else instead.  Try just getting a grilled chicken breast or grilled fish with steam veggies.
